There has been an increase in fake licences, for example, on 02 December 2022, Benjamin Peter John Head of Bournemouth was sentenced at Bournemouth Crown Court. He pleaded guilty at Poole Magistrates’ Court on 17 June 2022 to providing and supplying illegal security at various venues in Bournemouth. The court fined him £500 and ordered him to pay court costs of £1500 and a victim surcharge of £50.

Changes to SIA Licences

The SIA is changing the qualifications needed for an SIA licence. This follows a review of the licence-linked qualifications.

The SIA has developed top-up training to make sure current Door Supervisor and Security Guarding licence holders have the same basic skills and knowledge as new entrants achieving the updated qualifications.

From October 2021, door supervisors and security guards will need to complete top-up training before they renew their licence.

Enough Campaign

This month, the Home Secretary has launched a new, multi-year national communications campaign which says ‘Enough’ to violence against women and girls.

The campaign includes television adverts, billboards, social media and radio advertising and will highlight different forms of violence against women and girls and the simple acts that anyone can take to challenge perpetrators of abuse. Forms of violence against women and girls represented include street harassment, coercive control, unwanted touching, workplace harassment, revenge-porn and cyber-flashing.
