Every so often events occur that capture the attention of the popular press and media, becoming the topic of much opinion and speculation. Recently a great deal of coverage and attention was afforded to the robbery of Kim Kardashian in a Paris hotel, during which she was bound and gagged after five robbers gained entry to her room and stole a jewellery box containing valuables worth nearly $7 million as well as a ring worth $4.5 million, which Kardashian had flaunted on Instagram.

Security firms fined over death of security officer

Two security companies have been fined after a security officer died from carbon monoxide poisoning.

Javaid Iqbal, a 29 year old father of three, was employed by London based KK Security Services Ltd, a member of the SIA Approved Contractors Scheme and a member of the British Safety Council, as a security officer on a construction site in Leigh, Wigan. KK Security were sub contracted by Veritas Security (Southern) Ltd, a Southampton based company, despite it being written into the contract from the client that no sub-contracting would take place.

John Stern, director of JSS Security Ltd, prosecuted

On Thursday 10th August John Craig Stern, sole director of JJS Security Services Ltd (trading as Siteguard Contracts) pled guilty to failing to provide information to the Security Industry Authority (SIA) at Glasgow Sheriff Court.

In June 2014, the SIA began enquiries into Siteguard Contracts following an inspection at a public funded construction site. The business was found to be supplying an unlicensed security guard whose right to work had expired several months earlier. This was reported to Home Office Immigration and Enforcement (HOIE).
